Certified Medical Assistant Job Description

As a Medical Assistant you will be responsible for providing administrative support to ensure efficient operation of our fast paced vascular surgery outpatient private practice. You will support doctors and patients through a variety of tasks related to patient care management, organization and communication. The target is to complete all activities accurately and in a timely manner.

Responsibilities

  • Interview patients and document basic medical history
  • Obtain blood pressures, oximetry readings, heart rate, etc and document in patient EMR
  • Organize and schedule appointments
  • Update and file medical records and insurance reports
  • Arrange hospital admissions, pre-admission testing/clearance, and laboratory services
  • Assist during medical examinations
  • Produce and distribute correspondence memos, letters, faxes and forms
  • Prepare and clean treatment rooms and medical instruments
  • Assist during in office procedures (scrub and circulate) using sterile technique (willing to train)
  • Change patient bandages and wound dressings

Skills

  • Proven working experience as a medical assistant. Preferred work experience in vascular, orthopedics, pain management, or other surgical specialities or to those with experience in Thoracic Outlet Syndrome.
  • Knowledge of medical office operations and patient care
  • Excellent time management skills and ability to multi-task and prioritize work
  • Team oriented and ability to work with a diverse team and environment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong organizational and planning skills
  • Proficiency in MS Office and patient management software. Preferred ECW experience
  • Certified or Registered MA

Front Desk Receptionist

We are looking for an experienced Front Desk Receptionist for our busy outpatient medical practice to pair with our existing front desk receptionists. Our front desk receptionists will work together to provide excellent service to our patients both in person and over the phone. This position requires a variety of administrative and clerical tasks. As a front desk receptionist, you will be the first point of contact for our patients. You will coordinate front-desk activities, including but not limited to, answering phones and directing phone calls as appropriate, scheduling patient appointments, collecting and updating patient demographic information, collecting insurance information and co-pays, checking patients in for appointments, assisting patients with questions/concerns and giving appointment instructions, and other basic front desk duties. A well-matched candidate will be customer service oriented with the ability to multi-task in a fast paced environment, deal with urgent matters in a timely fashion, while streamlining office operations. Multitasking and time management skills are essential for this position. Experience in a medical/dental/veterinary setting strongly preferred as well as medical insurance knowledge and experience. Previous receptionist experience required.

Responsibilities

  • Greet and welcome patients as soon as they arrive at the office
  • Deliver instructions and expectations to patients with courtesy and professionalism during his/her office visit
  • Answer, screen and forward incoming phone calls
  • Ensure reception area is tidy and presentable, with all necessary stationery and material (e.g. pens, forms and brochures)
  • Provide basic and accurate information in-person and via phone/email
  • Maintain office security by following safety procedures and controlling access via the reception desk
  • Schedule patient appointments
  • Input patient demographic information
  • Input patient insurance information and collect co-pays
  • Perform other clerical receptionist duties such as filing, photocopying, transcribing and faxing
  • Understanding HIPAA and patient confidentiality

Skills

  • Proven work experience as a Receptionist, Front Office Representative or similar role
  • Experience with electronic medical records system a plus
  • Hands-on experience with office equipment (e.g. fax machines and printers)
  • Professional attitude and appearance
  • Solid written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to be resourceful and proactive when issues arise
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Excellent multitasking and time-management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks
